Beginnings never really end
Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, creeps in this petty pace...
Tomorrow I turn 52. It is an odd thing to say. It has both been slow and fast and stand still and beyond anything I ever imagined. I mean, when I was 18, I thought 30 was OOOOLLLLLLLDDDDD. And could I even imagine making it to the year 2000? I would be an ancient 26!
This sense of age and self, shifts, subtle at first, and then all at once.
And it keeps at it.
Every milestone birthday.
Every rite of passage.
Every first.
Every last.
Every rainbow, firefly sighting, sweet breeze on a hot and humid day, boy giggle and adult man laugh.
It doesn’t end, but it consistently begins.
So here I am, on the eve of concluding my 52nd turn on the earth, and starting my 53rd, and I am content.
I have been grinding and hustling and learning and pushing. But tomorrow? Tomorrow I think I’ll allow the world to go on as I observe it. As I reflect about it. And maybe consider what pace I want to set for the next year.
Oh, and eat tiramisu. I will definitely be doing that.
